Ways to Pay for Home Care

For Boca Raton, Delray Beach & Boynton Beach Families
There’s no single way to pay for home care. Most families in our service area end up combining two or three funding sources depending on the type of care needed. Here’s a quick look at the six main paths — tap into any one for the full breakdown.
Six funding paths

Choose the path that fits your situation

Each guide covers eligibility, what’s actually covered, and how to get started — in plain language.

Medicare

If you’re homebound and need skilled, intermittent nursing or therapy, Medicare can cover it at little to no cost through a Medicare-certified agency like City Choice. It doesn’t cover non-medical personal care on its own.

Health Insurance

Commercial plans can cover skilled home health, similar to Medicare, but coverage is far less consistent and usually requires prior authorization first. Non-medical home care is rarely covered.

Long-Term Care Insurance

LTC policies can pay for home care, but only if your specific policy includes it, and only once you meet the benefit trigger and elimination period. Not every policy works the same way.

Veteran Benefits

Veterans and surviving spouses have four possible paths, with Aid & Attendance being the most flexible: a tax-free monthly cash benefit you can put toward the caregiver of your choice.

Workers' Compensation

If home care is needed because of a workplace injury, workers’ comp can cover both skilled care and personal care assistance, with the insurance carrier authorizing the provider.

Private Pay

This is personal funds covering care directly — the most common path for non-medical, day-to-day support that the other five don’t reach.
